Milwaukee Firefighters Donate Coats to Children

The men and women of the Milwaukee Fire Department are making sure every kid who needs a winter coat gets one.

The Milwaukee firefighters raised $130,000 for the cause this year. They exceeded their goal of $120,000.

For 3 days this summer, firefighters stood on street corners to collect donations. Several community donors also made achieving the goal possible.

The money will provide winter coats for 7,000 kids in Milwaukee this winter.

The first school to receive coats is Story Elementary.

In addition to a coat presentation, firefighters also showed off the protective gear they wear to fight fires.

They talked about the importance of smoke detectors and the best way to treat a burn, cool water.

These aren't the only students who will get coats.

Coat presentations will continue throughout the week at 10 other schools such as the Milwaukee Academy of Chinese Language.
