Man arrested for OWI after crashing into another car, fleeing through backyards

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Mount Pleasant man is facing OWI charges after crashing into a car, injuring the driver.

Officers were dispatched to Mariner and South Sunnyslope Drive in April for a report of an accident. Officers spoke with the victim who said she was rear-ended by a green Dodge Durango which approached her at a high rate of speed. The victim had pain in her shin, right knee, and left shoulder. She was later taken to the hospital where she was treated for a concussion due to the crash.

The victim told police that after she was hit, the car fled the scene and traveled through the backyards of several condos, striking at least two parked cars. 

The suspect was identified was Erik Nielsen, 26, of Mount Pleasant.

Officers made contact with Nielsen who showed signs of intoxication.

He was arrested and is facing charges of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury, Operating With Prohibited Alcohol Concentration Causing Injury, and Hit and Run Causing Injury.
