Hearing for high school teacher accused of sex assault rescheduled
MILWAUKEE -- Megan Garland, the Messmer High School teacher accused of sexual assault, appeared in court for her preliminary hearing this afternoon. One 15-year-old boy and one 14-year-old boy both told police they engaged in sexual acts with the teacher.
Garland's preliminary hearing ended up being rescheduled after the defense said they need more time to examine the case.
Court documents says a security guard caught Garland engaged in sex acts with the 14-year-old boy in the parking lot of Destiny High School on Milwaukee's northwest side. A security guard saw a car with fogged windows, and opened the door to that car finding Garland and the 14-year-old boy. Both Garland and the teen were detained in the office of Destiny High School as police were called to the school. The 14-year-old boy did admit to engaging in sexual acts with Garland.
Milwaukee police say Garland attempted to commit suicide after being found out, and was treated for her injuries. She has been released, and is in police custody.
A 15-year-old student told police Garland groped him while getting a ride from her. The criminal complaint says Garland gave the boy a few dollars so he could get some McDonald's, and accidentally gave him a $5. She allegedly went through his pockets for the $5 bill, and slid her hands down the boy's pants for a few minutes.
Garland is due back in court on June 24th.
