Milwaukee/Wauwatosa -- If you haven't felt the affects of the Zoo Interchange projects, just wait a few weeks. Starting Saturday, another section gets underway.
The Northbound entrance to US 45 is closed from Watertown Plank which comes from the area of Children's Hospital. There's also other closures to be aware of.
Saturday's closures include the U.S. 45 Northbound ramp from Watertown Plank and access to Northbound Swan Boulevard. This goes through late 2014.
The 84th Street entrance ramp to I-94 closed as well, that's until at least the spring of 2014. You'll still be able to exitt at 84th Street off I-94.
Larry Holloway has a unique perspective. He drives for a living.
"It's difficult to deal with," Holloway said. "From here to the airport is 20 minutes. If it turns into 25, I've made a commitment late."
Holloway says he uses alternative routes, but gets questions.
"There are times where I get off the freeway or off a busy street, and they say 'where are you taking me?'. Trust me, we're going to get there, it's going to be in a more timely fashion."
He also jokingly regrets his career choice.
"I think I should have gone into the orange barrel business instead of the taxi business."
Mike Pyritz from the Wisconsin DOT says people need to be ready for traffic shifts around the hospital.
"For people going to the research park here or going to the Regional Medical Complex, you still can take US 45," Pyritz said. "Depending on you're comfortable, you can exit at North Avenue, take Highway 100 to Watertown Plank."
But for the rush hour motorist - Pyritz has this advice...
"Leave a little early. Give yourself a little extra time to get here. If you are delayed a little bit, that shouldn't be problematic if you give yourself a little extra time."
Get used to the construction around the Zoo interchange. The DOT says projects will continue on this through 2018.
