Wrong-way driver arrested after foot pursuit through wooded area
MILWAUKEE -- 21-year-old Jose Enrique Carattini-Alicea is facing multiple criminal charges after allegedly wrong-way driving while drunk. Carattini-Alicea allegedly led police on an early morning chase after spending the night drinking at a Water St. bar.
Emergency dispatch received reports of a wrong-way driver on I-794 at Oklahoma Ave. around 2:10 a.m. Minutes later the car was located heading southbound in the northbound lanes of Pennsylvania Ave. A deputy attempted to pull the car over, but the car sped away.
Carattini-Alicea led deputies on a chase that lasted 3.5 miles. The South Milwaukee resident eventually crashed in the woods near College Avenue and Lake Dr. Carattini-Alicea fled into the woods, but was arrested after a short foot pursuit.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office reports Carattini-Alicea's blood alcohol concentration was .15. The 21-year-old told deputies he'd been drinking at McGuillicuddy's on Water St. in downtown Milwaukee.
Carattini-Alicea is charged with Recklessly Endangering Safety, Fleeing, and Driving Under the Influence. If convicted on all charges, he'll face up to 16 years in prison.
