Four-year-old accidental shooting victim's grandmother charged

MILWAUKEE -- 48-year-old Renee Smith is facing criminal charges for allegedly leaving a gun within the reach her four-year-old grandson on March 19th.

The four-year-old found the handgun laying underneath Smith's bed, and accidentally shot himself in the head around 5:00 p.m. He was rushed to Children's Hospital, and is still under treatment there.

Smith told polcie she purchased the gun, becaus she was a victim of a home invasion three months prior to this incident. The man she bought the gun from says it contained five bullets when he sold it to Smith.

If convicted, Smith could serve up to nine months in jail.
