Wisconsin prosecutors mourn loss of murdered colleagues
WISCONSIN—Prosecutors across the state are showing support for two of their fallen colleagues in Texas.
Thursday and Friday the Wisconsin District Attorneys Association and their support staff will wear black ribbons to show solidarity and mourn the loss of Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney (ADA), Mark Hasse and Kaufman County District Attorney (DA), Mike McLelland and his wife.
Hasse was murdered near the courthouse in late January and McLelland was gunned down in his home Saturday.
“Wearing these ribbons is one small way we can recognize these two individuals who have given their lives, dedicated their lives really, to serving victims and seeking justice for victims within their community,” said Milwaukee County ADA, Matthew Torbenson.
Torbenson said killings like the ones involving law enforcement in Texas are rare and the incidents have not changed how he goes about doing his job. He oversees all child abuse prosecutions in Milwaukee County.
“I think our predominant focus is always on the safety and security of our victims, the victims that we serve and who we’re trying to seek justice for,” he said.
Texas Governor Rick Perry announced a $200,000 reward leading to the arrest and prosecution of the killers.
