PORT WASHINGTON -- 29-year-old Michael Cox from West Bend is being charged with illegal hunting for allegedly hitting a deer with his car on purpose.

Cox called police to say he hit the deer in the early morning hours of April 27th and he wanted to claim the carcass.

But a We Energies worker also contacted police with a very different interpretation of events and security camera video of the moment as it happened.

A DNR Warden also took a look at the video and concluded that the man stopped, backed up. flashed the truck's light to get the deer to move out of the bushes with the "intent of killing the deer."

A passenger in the truck told investigators the deer that was struck came out of nowhere after the rest in the group scattered.

Cox is due in court for an initial appearance on June 4th.
