MILWAUKEE -- A judge ruled 48-year-old John Vegas incompetent to stand trial for the stabbing death of his neighbor Barbara Blong. Vegas is accused of stabbing Blong to death at a transitional living facility for people with mental health issues.

According to court records, the judge agreed with a doctor's report saying Vegas is currently incompetent to stand trial. The doctor's report did say Vegas could become competent to stand trial before the statute of limitations expired.

Vegas will be in the custody of the Department of Health and Family Services for treatment until be becomes competent enough to stand trial. The judge ordered the department to notify the court if Vegas refuses to take psychotropic medication or any other treatment.

A new doctor's report is expected to be filed on September 19th, and will be examined in a court hearing on October 1st.
