WAUWATOSA -- The City of Wauwatosa is asking residents to reduce water use during heavy rains. The city says this will reduce the risk of sewer overflows and basement backups.

The city recommends taking shorter showers, skipping baths, turning off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving, delay running laundry and dish washing machines until after the rain stops.

Tips offered by the city for preventing basement flooding and backups include connecting your downspout, and draining water away from the house.

Wauwatosa is assuring citizens they're making improvements to its aging infrastructure.

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District offers several tips on how you can help lessen the stress on their systems.
