Waukesha parents win fight against cell phone tower
Waukesha -- The Waukesha School District's Finance and Facilities Committee decided to table the discussion on a proposal to place a cell phone tower next to an elementary school.
"We wanted to have our parents and our neighbors who are in the vicinity to have a say and we listened to them and we just happened to agree with them on this," explained Committee Chairman Joseph Como.
Last week more than a hundred parents, students and neighbors stood before the committee opposed to the idea, raising health and property value concerns.
Monday night's decision was a victory for them. "I hope Washington, DC is watching and does the right thing," said Concerned Neighbor and District Parent Jeanne Tarantino, referring to the federal government shutdown. "Because when people come together and organize themselves and make their views known to elected representatives they will do the right thing and this decision tonight is evidence of that."
The committee will not support or recommend the cell phone tower proposal to the full board.
