MILWAUKEE- Monday afternoon Governor Scott Walker signed a bill that clears the way for a controversial iron ore mine in Northern Wisconsin.

The signing took place in Rhinelander, and the Governor duplicated the ceremony at P&H Mining in Milwaukee.

The measure is controversial because it eases many state  regulations designed to protect the environment, to the point where many Democrats are worried about sacrificing the north woods.

Walker and the Republicans say it has the potential to create thousands of new jobs and that the mining will be done safely.

Democrats add that lawsuits will likely hold up any jobs actually being created for years.
