Vandals Create Gas Leak Risk
MILWAUKEE---The Milwaukee Fire Department is reporting an increased risk of gas explosions because of appliance thieves targeting foreclosed properties.
"With the high rate of foreclosures, people come in and they take out appliances whether they be stoves or furnaces or water heaters," Battalion Chief Christopher Snyder explains. "They will rip the appliances out and not shut off the gas." The Chief estimates that he's seen at least 50 cases in the past year where thieves caused a natural gas leak. WE Energies and the Milwaukee Fire Department ask you to call immediately if you smell gas, either 911 or 1 (800) 261-LEAK. |
