POND --- Two people are dead after a strange series of events unfolded Monday night in Marinette County. One of the deceased was shot by a police officer.

It all started at 10:09 p.m. Monday when Marinette County Sheriff received a report of a man who found a suspicious person in his cabin on 5th Rd. in the Town of Pound. The caller told police the suspicious person was armed.

A short time later the Sheriff's Department got another call about a vehicle that had crashed into a residence in the area.

When officers arrived they removed an injured man from the crash. The man in his 20's had apparently been shot. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Upon investigation police were led to an area near by where they came across an elderly man in his late 70's who had a gun inside a vehicle.

The man refused officer's requests to drop the gun. Police feared for their safety when the man began to point the gun at officers. Police shot the suspect and he died on scene.

No officers were injured. The Sheriff's Department is still investigating the incident.
