Town of Brookfield officer dies after suffering heart attack on duty

BROOKFIELD-- A Town of Brookfield Police Officer has passed away after suffering a heart attack while on duty.

The Brookfield Police Department said that Officer Donald Bishop was responding to a burglary in progress Friday night when he suffered the heart attack.

Bishop was 32-years-old and was hired as a full time police officer with the Town of Brookfield in August 2011.

He also worked as a part-time officer with the Village of Eagle Police Department.

Prior to becoming a police officer Bishop worked as a dispatcher with the Waukesha County Communications Center and the City of Oconomowoc Communications Center.

He also worked as a reserve officer with the Village of Mukwonago Police Department.

Officer Bishop had also worked for more than 10 years as a firefighter and emergency medical technician with the Village of North Prairie Fire Department.

Bishop graduated from Mukwonago High School and later from Waukesha Technical College where he received his training in law enforcement, firefighting and as an emergency medical technician.

The Town of Brookfield Police Department said that, "Officer Bishop was a very dedicated police officer and public safety professional serving the citizens of the Town of Brookfield and the residents of Waukesha County for more than 10 years. He will be truly missed as a member of our team."
