Teen shot by off-duty detective during robbery attempt

MILWAUKEE---An armed suspect approached an off-duty detective on Milwaukee's north side and attempted to rob him. The detective shot the 17-year-old robbery suspect and he fled the scene.

 It all started on the 4500 block of N. 27th Street shortly before 6:00 p.m. The suspect approached the detective and demanded valuables. During the robbery the detective shot the suspect. The suspect then fled the scene.

Soon after in the 2600 block of W. Aitkinson Ave the suspect entered a grocery store and asked for help. The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

 

The suspect has been identifiedas a 17-year-old Milwaukee resident.

 The detective was not injured.  He is a 53-years-old with nearly 23 years of service.

The incident is under investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. The detective was placed on administrative duty pending the completion of the investigation.
