MILWAUKEE --- A man with a handgun barricaded himself in a residence on the city's north side for several hours Saturday evening.

Police say around 5:00 p.m. they were investigating a shots fired complaint in the 2800 block of 19th St. They spotted a man who matched a description given by a witness behind a house.

When police ordered the man to stop, he fled into the house. Officers found shell casings behind the home and a bullet hole in the side of the house.

SWAT and negotiators were called to the scene and after about three hours the 29-year-old suspect surrendered to police.

During the standoff a large crowd had gathered around the scene. Two people were detained by police but were not placed under arrest.

The suspect was taken into custody for Endangering Safety and Use of a Weapon.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
