Stamp Out Hunger

by Keith Meka

MILWAUKEE - The Saturday before Mother's Day is always when the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive takes place. On Saturday it was held for the 21st year in a row. Letter Carriers pick up food donations from people along their routes and over the years they've collected 1.2 billion pounds of food around the country. In the Milwaukee area about 1 million pounds of food is collected each year. All of that food ends up at the Hunger Task Force which supplies more than 60 food pantries in Milwaukee County as well as 20 soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Officials at the Hunger Task Force say the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive helps them get through the very hectic summer months when childhood hunger is at it's peak.
