Shots fired near UW Madison campus

MADISON-- Madison police said that two teenagers have been detained, but not arrested, in connection with a reports of shots fired in downtown Madison near Langdon Street.

Authorities are calling the incident a robbery.

No injuries have been reported.

Madison College sent an emergency notice telling students and staff to stay in classrooms and avoid the downtown building.

Police had thought one of the suspects may have been inside the Madison College building on North Carroll Street, but cleared the lock down around 7:30 p.m.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department sent out alerts advising students and people in the area to stay inside, but the shelter in place was lifted shortly before 9:00 p.m.

UW police asked students to avoid the area along the lake from Lake Street to the Lakeshore dorms.

A Memorial Union staff member confirmed said its building was on lockodwn during part of the search.
