Crews are working around the clock to prevent the fuel from leaking into creeks and rivers.

The Shell Oil Company owns the damaged pipeline and says that so far the situation has not posed a threat to people or wildlife.

"As of today we have taken approximately two to three-hundred air samples, and all of those airsamples have come back non-detect, which means non-hazardous," said Robert Herrera from Shell Oil Co.

Tomorrow crews will begin the next step, which includes an excavation to find the source of the leak.

"We will continue with the excavation and the work even if the weather has turned until we have this cleaned up," said Herrera.

At Mitchell International Airport, it's business as usual.

"So far our passengers are not seeing any disruption to service. We're operating on one runway right now, which is fairly common practice, so it's not hurting passenger traffic at all," said Ryan McAdams, airport spokesperson.

CBS58 also spoke to a man working at a business near the airport who says he smelled what he suspected was diesel fuel about a week ago.

"I smelled it, but there are always strange smells around here because we work so close to the airport," said Don Flemming.

Flemming also says he is happy with the response to the problem.

"I'm happy with the response. They've had a lot of people out on it, and they're obviously looking into it."

At this time, fuel is being trucked in to get planes filled up. Other planes are also coming in from other cities with extra fuel to make up for the shortage.

Shell Oil Co. also states the pipeline was installed in 1972 and claims this is the first incident that has ever happened with this line.
