Several animals dead in 4-alarm fire
HUSTISFORD---A fire destroyed a home in Dodge County, killing several animals in a traveling petting zoo.
According to Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls fire crews responded to a home on Garfield road in the Township of Hustisford at 8:30 a.m. Sheriff Nehls says the single family house is a total loss. The homeowner was out deer hunting in his tree stand and happened to look over at his house, and saw that it was on fire. Sheriff Nehls says that they suspect the fire was caused by a wood-burning stove. One of the occupants of the home runs a traveling petting zoo. She keeps the larger animals like goats and pigs outside, but some of the smaller animals lived inside the home and were lost in the fire. Sheriff Nehls doesn't know what type of animals or how many may have been inside the home when the fire broke out. Crews are still on scene, but expect to be clearing the scene around the noon hour. |
