One killed in school bus rollover accident near Illinois border

ILLINOIS -- One person is dead after a bus filled with school children was involved in a three vehicle crash just over the Wisconsin/Illinois border in Wadsworth. The accident took place around 8:00 a.m. this morning when the school bus may have run a traffic light.

According to CBS2 in Chicago, the bus was traveling west on Route 173 when it may have run a light and hit a yellow Jeep Wrangler traveling south on Kilbourn. A Jeep Cherokee also collided with the bus leaving the bus filled with 35 children overturned.

The school bus was taking those 35 children to Newport Elementary School in Wadsworth. We're told the children and the driver were not seriously injured. The man driving the yellow Jeep Wrangler was injured.

Over two dozen victims were transported to hospitals, some went to St. Catherine's Hospital in Pleasant Prairie and others went to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville.

CBS 58 crews are on the way to the scene of this crash near the Wisconsin/Illinois border.
