Mother admits to drinking in co-sleeping death
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has released its report on the first co-sleeping death of the year. In the report, the mother, Demetris Durr, admits to drinking throughout the day and taking Percocet.
Emergency crews were called to an apartment near 61st and Capitol Dr. early January 7th to reports of an infant death. The father, Mitchell Gray, says he handed six-day-old Cayden Durr to his mother around 1:30 a.m. for a feeding. Durr's mother was lying on the couch at the time, and never left the couch.
The report says Gray returned to the living room around 4:00 a.m., and found his six-day-old son unresponsive. 9-1-1 was called around 4:04 a.m.
In an interview with investigators, Durr told police she had been drinking vodka and sprite all day. She even admitted to having a percocet around 5:00 p.m.
Durr said she remember's putting down young Cayden at 11:00 p.m., but doesn't remember being woken up to feed the infant around 1:30 a.m.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's report says the family had a bassinet, and a "Pack n Play" in the apartment.
