MILWAUKEE-Rep. Grigsby was released from the hospital according to a statement released by her Madison office Monday.

"Rep. Grigsby continues to make progress in her medical recovery and has been released from the hospital. Her recovery will continue in a private setting as recommended by her physicians," the statement says.

"Rep. Grigsby and her family express their heartfelt gratitude for the kindness and respect shown during this incredibly difficult time. The Grigsby Office will continue to provide updates as Tamara moves toward a full recovery. "

Grigsby was hospitalized over the holidays, rushed to the hospital and held in the intensive care unit.

Her office aknowledged that she had been battling cancer, but would not give specifics about why she was rushed to the hospital.

Monday's statement goes on:

"Many have expressed an interest in sending flowers to Tamara and her family. In lieu of flowers, Rep. Grigsby requests that interested parties instead make a small donation to a Wisconsin organization representing the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. To honor the Martin Luther King Day of Service, Grigsby prefers that, instead of flowers, the cause of social justice move forward. Groups such as Urban Underground, the Milwaukee Inner City Congregations Allied for Hope (MICAH), the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families, and the Wisconsin Campaign Against Violence are a few of many organizations that represent part of Dr. King's-and Rep. Grigsby's-commitment to better lives for all."
