Racine County schools cancel trip to nation's capitol
Burlington -- Three schools in Racine County were forced to cancel a student trip to the nation's capitol this weekend because of the government shutdown.
St. Charles and St Mary's schools in Burlington and St Thomas in Waterford decided to postpone the trip because the monuments and national parks are closed to the public.
"The experience is so much different when you're standing next to those statues and memorials rather than looking at it from the street," said St. Mary Principal Loretta Jackson.
Many of the students have been looking forward to the 8th grade trip since kindergarten. They've fun-raised for years. They won't lose any money but they've rescheduled the trip for November.
If for some reason the shutdown lasts through then, they will try again in the spring.
