MILWAUKEE-- A 34-year-old woman who was four months pregnant was shot at around 5:30 Sunday morning.

"The young lady was an innocent victim," said inspector Kurt Leibold with the Milwaukee police department.

Milwaukee police say Sharon Staples was walking with her 13-year-old son looking for her car on the 3700 block of West Lisbon Avenue when two men approached her and demanded her purse. She refused, and that's when she was shot by one of the men. Her son ran to a neighbor for help, but the woman died later at a hospital.

"The son is our best witness at this time unfortunately," said Kurt Leibold.

Police say the two men fled the scene in this 1997 teal Dodge Caravan being driven by another suspect. The vehicle was reported stolen and later recovered by police. They believe this homicide is connected to one or two other robberies that occured earlier that morning and ask anyone who may not have reported a crime or who has information to come forward.

The shooter is described by police as a black male in his teens to late 20's, 5'6'', and 150 pounds. The other suspect is only described at this time as a black man.
