Milwaukee Police use smartphone app to track armed robber
WEST ALLIS -- Milwaukee police tracked down and arrested robbery suspect Kenyacies Phipps, 17, using the Find My iPhone app. Police were able to track down and arrest Phipps within hours minutes of the robbery.
Police say Phipps stole an iPhone and a bike from a 13-year-old boy on the Hank Aaron Trail near 72nd St. on August 28th. The 13-year-old boy told police Phipps grabbed the handlebars of his bike, and demanded his bicycle. Phipps allegedly pulled a knife on the 13-year-old victim, and stole his iPhone.
Milwaukee police officers worked with the victim to use his the Find My iPhone app. They traced the phone's location to a house on the 2600 block of N. 41st St. Officers found Phipps hiding in the basement.
Phipps has been charged with armed robbery by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. If found guilty of armed robbery, Phipps could be sentenced to 40 years in prison.
