Police follow footprints to find suspected burglar

RACINE—Police tracked down a suspected burglar thanks to the fresh snow that fell early Monday morning.

Investigators said they followed the footprints winding through several city blocks, from Joey’s on Taylor, to the Washington Park High School baseball field.

“It ended right at the suspect’s feet,” explained Racine Police Sergeant Jessie Metoyer.

The owner of the tavern believes his alarm system, surveillance video and good police work helped lead to a speedy arrest.

“If you’re going to break into a place of business and you’re going to violate somebody’s livelihood or their residence there’s a price to pay,” said Joey LeGath. “I’m glad that the Racine Police Department and now the justice system can put him behind bars where he belongs.”

Police said they arrested Kyle Kraft, 40, for Burglary to a Building, Criminal Damage to Property and two counts of Bail Jumping. They said he was out on bond for a previous arrest. Online court records show that arrest was in connection with a charge of Criminal Trespassing.
