MILWAUKEE---After some questions and controversy regarding the death of Darius Simmons, the FPC has published a statement regarding the investigation of the homicide.

Darius Simmons was killed on May 31 outside his home by his elderly neighbor, John Spooner.

A controversy ensued after the public questioned the police handling of the death.

Police put Simmons' mother in the back of a squad car for questioning and she was unable to be with her son before he died.

The statement reviews and explains events such as these and clarifies police policy.

This public statement provides a summary of the incident, reviews four primary areas of concern with respect to police procedures during the investigation, and provides the conclusions of the citizen board of commissioners.
