Police: Driver in custody after fatal motorcycle crash

MILWAUKEE --- Police said one woman is in custody after a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday evening on the city's northwest side.

One woman is dead and one man was injured according to Captain Aaron Raap. The man was driving the motorcycle, the woman was his passenger and both are 51-year-old Milwaukee residents, Raap said.

The accident happened shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Lovers Lane Rd. near Carmen. Raap said the driver of the car, also a Milwaukee resident, did a "maneuver," the motorcycle crashed, and the couple riding it was ejected. They were not wearing helmets, according to police.

Raap said police are looking into whether alcohol was a factor. Raap declined to comment on why the driver of the car was being held in connection with the accident.

The crash happened near Milwaukee Harley. There was an event being held as part of the area's weekend motorcycle rally. Raap did not know if the couple was headed there or if they had attended.

The family of the driver who was taken into custody was at the scene. They did not want to give her name, and said they had little information about the accident. Her sister, Kenisha Williams, talked with CBS 58 to reach out to the victims and their families.

"We send our condolences out to them and everything and on behalf of our family, we do send our prayers towards them and everything," Williams said. "I don't know what the outcome of the situation is going to be with my sister involved. Our prayers go out to the family and we pray that everything come out to a fair agreement."

Williams said her sister is very responsible, and had just left work in Brown Deer.

This accident was the second fatal motorcycle crash in Milwaukee on Saturday.
