Person killed in Christmas morning fire

MOUNT PLEASENT- Just before 12:30 a.m., the Mount Pleasant Police Department along with the South Shore Fire Department were dispatched to an active house fire at 5535 16th Street.

Upon arriving on scene officers observed thick smoke and flames in the living room of the residence.

South Shore Fire Department made entry into the house and located a deceased victim.

The identity of the victim is not being released at this time.

This incident remains under investigation.
