MILWAUKEE -- "I had many near death situations where a gun was pulled on me quite a few times. One time the gun went off once and just missed me by a hair," says Jodine Basterash who survived and escaped an abusive relationship. On Saturday, she joined actors with the organization, Voices of the Fatherless Child  at Destiny High School to combat domestic violence.

Actors performed skits for learning opportunities for community members in the audiance. A facilitator asked audiance members questions about what could have been done to prevent a tragedy.

Basterash is encouraged anytime she hears people inspired by her story, which she says just happened with a woman whe didn't realize the danger she faced.

"She was in tears with my story because she didn't know the seriousness of it and how it can lead to death. She was in a domestic violence situation."

Basterash says anyone in a dangerous relationship should come up with a safe exity strategy before it's too late.
