Overnight construction causes traffic backups

MILWAUKEE -- A lane change near the Marquette Interchange began Wednesday night and triggered a traffic nightmare that carried over into the morning commute.

The work on WB I-94 was supposed to begin on Monday, but because of Tuesday's snowstorm, roadwork was pushed back.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation highly suggests commuters take alternate routes, such as State Street, Canal Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

The DOT estimates road construction should be complete by May.
