MILWAUKEE-- Eight Oak Creek Police officers were honored by President Obama at the White House Saturday.

They were the first to respond to the shooting at the Sikh Temple last year.

President Obama even gave special recognition to the heroic actions of Lt. Brian Murphy.

"When a gunman opened fire on the temple in Wisconsin and Brian was the first to arrive he did not consider his own safety. H fought back until help arrived and ordered his fellow officers who are here today to protect the safety of the Americans worshiping inside even though he was lying there bleeding from 12 bullet wounds. When he was asked hot he did hit he said "that's just the way we're made.

These officers, along with others from around the country, were given the 2013 Top Cop award.

There will be a special banquet held for the Top Cops award winners Sunday.
