OWI arrests increase overnight
MILWAUKEE–-Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputies made 11 OWI arrests overnight. Police say that nearly doubles the usual amount for a Friday night.
Three of the OWI arrests involved crashes. A typical weekend night results in about six OWI arrests. Sheriff David A. Clarke announced increased OWI Task Force patrols for “Operation Safe Drive,” which runs from the Thanksgiving holiday weekend through New Year’s Day. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation also began their "Booze and Belts" initiative on Friday to encourage safe driving. Squads also cracked down for speed and seat belt enforcement. Milwaukee Police say that grant funding offsets the cost of the initiative. |
