New Year's Eve patrols

MILWAUKEE - If you plan on heading out to celebrate the new year, Milwaukee Police want you to know they will be out in full force making sure everyone celebrates safely.

Milwaukee police are urging revelers to plan ahead. Typically, emergency room visits increase by four times on New Year's Eve, and the vast majority of those visits are alcohol related.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office also plans to be a big presense on freeways Monday night. They plan to announce their first OWI arrest of 2013 in a press release the moment it happens after midnight.

Police also urge people not fire weapons to ring in the new year. The bullets have to come down somewhere and they can cause injury and even death.

Outside of Milwaukee, many local municipalities will have OWI Task Forces out overnight night searching for drunk drivers.
