Union Grove -- Racine County Authorities are investigating two separate fires in a small, quiet Union Grove neighborhood.  The first at 816 12th Avenue and the other just around the corner at a garage on New Street.

"It's a little suspicious," Pete Witt, who lives across the street, said.

"Very unusual," Carolyn Wilson said. "And that close together."

Firefighters first responded to the home around 3:30 a.m. for a report of a basement fire.

There were no active flames, but the house was filled with smoke.

A few minutes later, firefighters spotted a fire just a block away near 11th Ave and New St.

A garage with vehicles inside was on fire.

Residents at both homes were removed safely and there were no injuries.

The cause of both fires is still under investigation.

A damage estimate has not been determined for either structure.

Officials are still investigating to determine if the fires are related.
