Most people displaced after porch collapse have found new housing
MILWAUKEE -- Most of the people displaced from a southside apartment complex have found other housing. Last Thursday a fourth story concrete porch came crashing down to the ground on 24th and National Avenue. Amazingly, only two people suffered non life threatening injuries.
There were some 145 building violations on the structure in the past, but officials say the owner had addressed all of them before last week's collapse. The owner has said he plans to fix the porch and obtain permits, but he'll need a full building inspection to reopen.
Neighbors believe other major problems will be found inside. Of the 33 people displaced from the complex after the collapse, only 8 including some children are still being cared for by the Red Cross.
