Mining Hearing Gets HeatedLawmakers Complain Not Given Time To SpeakMADISON-Democratic lawmaker John Lehman objected to procedure during a long hearing that wrapped up late Wednesday on bringing an iron mine to northern Wisconsin. "Madam Chairman," Lehman said, "this is unheard of in the legislature where you do not allow legislators to ask a public question to the authors of the bill. This is unheard of." The bill would make major changes to Wisconsin's mining regulations in order to persuade a company to come here. Similar legislation failed last year. Opponents still have major concerns about the environmental impact. Supporters tout the jobs that could be generated in a mining company came to the state.
