MILWAUKEE—Families and friends of Milwaukee’s 2012 murder victims came together Sunday evening to support each other and pray for change.

Northcott Neighborhood House, Inc. sponsored a candlelight vigil at Ascension Lutheran Church. Pastor Jonathan Jacobs said the purpose was to build stronger more non-violent communities. “My hope and prayer is that each one of us as citizens of this community will look at each other as neighbors with common ground, with a common hope and that we won’t fear each other but we will take that time to get to know each other and support each other.”

More than 100 candles were lit to honor the victims. The organization’s definition of homicide differs from Milwaukee Police. In a statement released to CBS 58 MPD’s deputy inspector said “Milwaukee has had 90 homicides in 2012.”
