MILWAUKEE-MADDAC tells CBS 58 news that police shot and killed a pit bull near 31st and Greenfield Friday afternoon.

The dog was struck twice after a bite incident.

The dog is being transported to Madison for a rabies test.

A neighbor tells CBS 58's Tiffany Tarpley a person was walking through the neighborhood when they were bitten by the dog.

Police say the dog lunged at responding officers so an officer opened fire.

They also claim the dog was on the loose and the owner was cited.

The owner says the pet was a four year old staffordshire pit bull named Egypt.
