Milwaukee mom accused of killing seven-day-old son

MILWAUKEE -- 22-year-old Brandy Payne is charged with First Degree Reckless Homicide after allegedly raising her seven-day-old infant over her head and throwing him to the ground. Police say this happened at her home in Milwaukee near 39th and Burleigh St.

According to the criminal complaint, Payne was arguing with the infants father over the phone when he called her "bogus" and alleged the child may not be his. That's when Payne allegedly took seven-day-old Michael Johnson III and threw him to the kitchen floor.

The complaint goes on to say Payne told police she noticed blood on the floor after throwing her infant to the ground. She allegedly cleaned it up with a paper towel, and threw the paper towels away in garbage cart a few houses down.

Payne told police she noticed a deformity in the shape of her infants head, and put a cap on the baby to cover it up. She then took the baby to a home near 64th and Congress, because the infant's father was there. Payne dropped off the baby, and left immediately. The father's family noticed the infant needed medical attention, and called 911. Seven-day-old Michael Johnson III was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital that evening.

If convicted, Payne faces up to 60 years in prison.
