Milwaukee man shot by south side bar owner charged
MILWAUKEE -- 21-year-old Jose Munoz is charged with attempted armed robbery for taking part in the failed robbery of the Concertina Bar near S. 37th and Burnham St. on August 15th.
According to the criminal complaint, bar owner Andrew Kochanski told police three young men walked into a bar and one of them yelled "Everybody don't move! This is a robbery!".
Kochanski says he began moving for his firearm under the bar, and began firing on the three men. Kochanski hit Munoz and Carmelo Matsos-Arzola. Munoz escaped with the other robber, but Matsos-Arzola did not.
When officers arrived at the bar, they found Kochanski performing CPR on Matsos-Arzola. Matsos-Arzola died at the bar.
The criminal complaint says Munoz was driven to a hospital in Illinois. Munoz was shot in the leg and butt. The woman who drove Munoz to the hospital says his father told her to not take him to a hospital in the Milwaukee area.
Earlier this week, the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office announced Kochanski will face no criminal charges for shooting two of the three men who tried to rob his bar.
