Woman arrested for battery and drunk driving with 8 kids in her van
MILWAUKEE -- 50-year-old Retha McCoy was arrested for second offense driving under the influence and battery. McCoy allegedly joined in with family members in the assault of her husband, and was allegedly drunk as she drove her husband and his grandchildren in their van.
According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department, McCoy brought her husband and his eight grandchildren with her to a family reunion at Kern Park on Milwaukee's north side. The husband told 911 dispatch he and his wife began arguing after the dog they brought ran away.
Witnesses say McCoy struck her husband in the forehead causing bleeding. Four of McCoy's family members were seen joining in, and knocking her husband to the ground. The husband's eldest grandchild tried to help her grandfather, and was hit in the face.
The sheriff's office says the family members fled the scene in McCoy's nephews car. McCoy stayed around until law enforcement arrived on the scene. Her blood alcohol concentration was found to be .09.
The parents of all eight grandchildren, from Chicago, picked up their children at the Patrol Substation. If convicted of the 2nd offense DUI and Battery, McCoy will face up to 15 moths in jail.
The sheriff's office reports McCoy has an extensive criminal history.
