Mayor Barrett kicks off new recycling program in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE—Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett kicked off a new recycling program Thursday.
He urged Milwaukee residents to dramatically increase recycling of plastic grocery bags and other items such as dry-cleaning bags, newspaper bags, bread bags and other plastic film.
The goal of the program is to get citizens to re-purpose the bags or return them to recycling containers at any Roundy’s location instead of letting them wind up in the landfill.
The campaign is expected to increase supply of recycled plastics, attract new investments and jobs in plastics recovery and manufacturing and serve as a model for other communities.
Mayor Barrett declared October 2013 Milwaukee Plastic Film Awareness Month.
