Marquette students sexually assaulted
MILWAUKEE—Marquette University confirmed that two students have been sexually assaulted while participating in a digital storytelling program in Italy.
In a letter sent to parents and students, the university said that the assaults took place at a private bar in Cagli, Italy. Italian police have been notified and students in the student abroad program have been told to stay away from the establishment. Marquette University released a statement that said, “The safety, security and well-being of our students, whether on campus, or studying abroad, is our top priority. As soon as we learned of the two incidents, our Marquette faculty and staff members on site informed all of the student participants in person. We have offered support, counseling and any additional resources needed to the students affected, and have taken steps to address the safety and well-being of all the students in the program. We have also notified all of the parents of the students in the program. We will continue to be in very close communication with the entire group throughout their remaining weeks abroad.” |
