Man tries to rob Greenfield bank with taser
GREENFIELD -- 33-year-old James Slater is charged with attempt robbery of a financial institution after trying to rob a Great Midwest Bank in Greenfield on July 13th. Witnesses say Slater wore a fake mustache and beard during the attempted robbery.
According to the criminal complaint, Slater tried to rob the bank using a taser. One teller told police Slater sparked the taser in her face. He allegedly made all bank employees go into the back of the bank, and lay on their stomachs.
Witnesses told police, a bank customer entered the bank during the robbery. Slater tried to order this man to the ground, but he ended up punching Slater in the face. The customer struggled with Slater for control of the taser, and eventually got the best of Slater.
If found guilty of attempted robbery of a financial institution and possession of an electric weapon, Slater will face up to 26 years in prison.
