Beating Near Summerfest Now Ruled A Homicide

MILWAUKEE --- The Medical Examiner's Office has ruled 49-year-old Joseph Hetzel's death a homicide. Hetzel was brutally beaten in the summer of 1996 at a parking lot near Summerfest on the 500 block of E. Michigan St.

According to Todd Hetzel, the victims brother, Joseph Hetzel was severely beaten by a gang of Hispanic males that were never arrested. According to the Medical Examiner's report Hetzel said, "His brother was beaten and kicked in the head so severely that he was clinically dead and had blood coming form his eyes in addition to having his head caved in."

Hetzel was left paralyzed from his injuries. He made some progress but was confined to a wheelchair after he fell down some stairs in 2009 as a result of his immobility from the beating.

Hetzel was living at the All About Life Rehabilitation facility in Fond du Lac when he died on Feb 28th. The Medical Examiner's Office found the cause of death to be complications of blunt force injuries of the head from the beating in 1996.
