Man arrested after police pursuit

MOUNT PLEASANT--A 23-year-old man is arrested after leading police on a pursuit.

It started around 3:00 a.m. Saturday when a Mount Pleasant Police Officer saw a vehicle speeding at about 100 mph on Durand Ave. near Taylor Ave.

The officer caught up with the vehicle and attempted to stop it.

The driver did not pull over and a pursuit began.

The vehicle finally stopped in a driveway in the 1800 block of Grand Ave. and the driver fled on foot.

The driver, Jose Gomez of Racine, was eventually caught several blocks away.

Police performed a search on Gomez and found a handgun and marijuana.

He was arrested and detained at the Racine County Jail for possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana, fleeing and eluding, and probation violation.
