MILWAUKEE-- 22-year-old Xavier Hughes, the man who admitted guilt in the drunk driving crash that killed his friend last April was sentenced today.
A Milwaukee county judge sentenced him to a six year term in the Wisconsin State Prison, with three years of initial confinement and three years of extended supervision.
Hughes was driving his friend, 22-year-old Thomas Olson to the hospital, because his mother had just been run over. Hughes lost control of the vehicle he was driving and crashed it near 90th and National Ave., killing Olson and injuring others.
Olson's family did not blame Hughes for the crash and asked the judge to be lenient on the sentence.
The judge said the six year sentence was longer than what the state and defense had asked for, but she felt it was fair and just.
